So you see a good bargain to New Zealand or Singapore with Scoot or Air New Zealand. Perhaps taking advantage of a Scoot sale. You might even see a Jetstar price cheaper on another travel agent site such as Bestjet, but you want it even cheaper than on the Jetstar page. After all, that’s why you’re here. You love a bargain! Well Jetstar has a Price Beat Guarantee which you can, and SHOULD be using to your advantage.
What is THE Jetstar Price Beat Guarantee?
Jetstar’s Price Beat Guarantee is a policy Jetstar have implemented for a long time now that not only beats a competitor’s price, but beats it by 10%. This now includes their own flights on 3rd party websites. Once beaten, you are issued their basic ticket which doesn’t include preferred seating, meals or luggage but you do avoid their credit card fee
What’s the catch?
The flight you are submitting to Jetstar to price match must be identical to Jetstar’s offering. For example, if you are comparing a direct Melbourne to Sydney flight with Scoot, Jetstar must offer an identical flight. The flight timings also must match the following:
Leaving at a comparable time to the competitor flight. Both flights must leave:
- Within one hour of each other if they’re domestic or flights between Australia and New Zealand
- Within one hour of each other if they’re international flights within Asia
- Within the same calendar day if they’re international flights (excluding flights within Asia and flights between Australia and New Zealand).
How do I use it?
It’s hard to find, somewhat hidden in fact, but worth the little extra effort and to show you how, I’ll be comparing Melbourne to Singapore using Scoot as the reference. Flying between Australia and Singapore is covered by the third clause (“Same calendar day”) so we have that leniency to play around with
Booking on August 16, Scoot is selling the flight for $184. A check on Jetstar shows the same flight, 2 hours apart for $199:
Clearly, I want to save 10% on this by booking with Jetstar over Scoot so let’s scroll to the bottom of the page and we see the Price Match Guarantee link. It’s the only area on the page you can find it:
Scroll through the terms and conditions. It’s worth pointing out that this is the most basic fare. No luggage, meals or seating is included. So let’s open a chat:
Here we need to fill out the full form. Make sure you make a note of the place and the Jetstar time. You’ll be prompted to select Scoot as the competitor. From there, hit the Submit button and a live chat will open:
I don’t want to raise a new case at this time to show it (But I will update it appropriately when I next take advantage of it). There is usually a wait time of about 5 – 10 minutes. After which, you will connect to an agent that will confirm all the details of the flight and as long as it’s all correct, will give you a Jetstar link to go to where you then make payment with the competitor’s price minus the 10%. The best part about this is that there are NO booking fees, regardless of how you pay it, saving another $10 per passenger.
Some people will argue that once you factor in the costs of food, seating and luggage, the costs go up to nearly that of a full fare airline, and to an extent that is correct, but you can decide for yourself with my comparison between Low-Cost Carriers and Full-Fare Carriers and make up your own mind on the matter which will be up later in the week.
